Adopt A
Little Muffin
Adoption Process
Are you ready to adopt? Please thoroughly read the following adoption information prior to applying.

-
Have all of your current pets been to the vet within the last 12 months for their annual check up and yearly vaccinations? If not, please schedule their vet appointments and get them updated before filling out our adoption application.
-
Our rescue is based out of our home in Richmond, KY. Please make sure you are able to travel here to pick up your new family member(s).
-
Kittens do best in pairs! For this reason, we ONLY adopt out our kittens in pairs unless you already have a young, playful cat at home to be their companion.
-
All applicants must be 18+ years old and the person applying must be the primary caretaker of the cat(s)
-
Every little muffin cat will go home with their health records and are dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped, FIV/FeLV negative unless otherwise noted, and spayed/neutered.
-
Our adoption fee is $125 when adopting one, and $100 for each kitty when adopting multiple. This fee is non-refundable and helps us cover some of the cost of vetting and supplies so that we can continue rescuing kitties in need. On average we spend $300 per cat if they have no major health issues, so greatly appreciate any donations on top of the adoption fee.
Adoption application: the next step is to fill out our adoption application below or here. Since we are a home and foster based rescue, we require approved adoption applications prior to scheduling a meet and greet, but we do host a monthly adoption event where you can meet some of our adoptable kitties with or without an application. You can see all of our adoptable kitties on Petfinder.
Processing your application: It usually takes us 1-5 business days depending on how busy our volunteers are and how thoroughly the application is filled out. We will call your vet and landlord if applicable. All pets in the home must be current on vaccines and spayed/neutered, unless they are too young or there is another valid reason.
To ensure the process goes as quickly as possible, please list the correct name your pets are under on your application (or if you are unsure provide a list of possible names) as well as the vet(s) they have received annual care and vaccinations at. If you have any pets under your account not currently living with you, make sure to mention them on the application. If you recently adopted your pet and they received their vaccinations prior to adopting, please send us a text at ‪(859) 363-5363‬ or email at littlemuffinsrescue@gmail.com with the records you received at adoption. This helps to reduce the number of phone calls our volunteers will need to make in order to process your application.
We will reach out via text message as soon as we have processed your application!
Getting ready to take your new baby home: The next step is to prepare for your kitty! This includes buying supplies (litter box, litter, food, toys, etc.) and setting up a quiet home base for your kitty to spend their first 1-2 weeks while they settle in and are slowly introduced to any pets in the home, a spare room or bathroom usually works well for this. Our kitties are used to eating Purina ProPlan Chicken and Rice Dry food (either kitten or adult recipe depending on their age) and use pine pellet litter (we buy the 40lb bags from Tractor Supply).

Meet and Greet: Once your application is approved we can plan a time for you to meet/adopt. Please be considerate of our foster and the kitties when attending an adoption meeting. Here are some general guidelines:
-
Communicate whether you are intending to adopt or just want to meet the kitty. If you are wanting to adopt, bring a carrier for your new baby to ride home in!
-
Text an eta on the day of the meeting when you leave your home and text the foster once you are there.
-
Be considerate of our foster’s home and time. Ideally meet and greets should be ~30 minutes, and if you stay longer or don’t adopt we encourage you to send a small donation.
-
Be considerate of our rescue kitties. It is important to know that cats rarely show their full personalities during a meet and greet with a new person and we encourage you to ask questions prior to the meet and greet to help you with your adoption decision. When meeting our kitties, we encourage being calm, patient, and gentle. Sitting down and allowing the kitty to come to you, or following the foster parent’s guidance, is usually the best way to help them feel comfortable and confident. Cats need time to adjust and feel safe before their true selves shine. This is why we encourage adopters to trust the process and the 3-3-3 rule: 3 days to decompress and get used to a new space, 3 weeks to start feeling comfortable and showing more of their personality, 3 months to fully settle in and bond with their new family.

Adopting! We use shelterluv for our adoptions and will text you a link where you can sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee with a credit or debit card. If you are not ready to take your new baby home on the day of the meet and greet, we ask that you put them on an adoption hold which is done in the same manner. You can also place an adoption hold prior to a meet and greet if you are certain about a kitten.
Send us updates, leave a review, and follow us on social media! We ask that you send us updates on how your new baby is settling in during the slow introduction period. Going forward, we always love to see our rescue kitties thriving in their forever homes and pictures and updates mean the absolute world to us!
Leaving a google and/or facebook review is greatly appreciated and helps us reach more wonderful people like you that are ready to welcome a rescue kitty into their homes and hearts!
You can also follow us on facebook/instagram! Liking, commenting on, and sharing our posts helps our babies reach more adopters and find their forever families!
